New Zeiss DuraMax

Quality assurance is all about minimizing the risks of unforeseen errors to occur. The better we are at predicting errors, the better we get in preventing them from happening and the less time we need to use in detective control / inspections.

At BJ-Gear, we produce over 10.000 different part numbers which are used at our assembly lines. All these parts are different and consist of their own specifications and tolerances. Ensuring our well-known high-quality standards requires different inspection methods with many different gages and other inspection equipment. These inspection methods are time consuming and often rely on the skills of the employee. Couldn’t it be possible to optimize this process without increasing the risks for errors?

The answer is yes. That’s why we at BJ-Gear have invested in a Zeiss DuraMax. The DuraMax is a shopfloor CMM and allows us to take measurements out into our manufacturing area which previously only could be performed in our measuring lab. This one machine will measure faster, is more accurate and less employee dependent without the needs of other inspection equipment. Aside from these benefits the system also visualizes the results in a way which allows us to learn even more about our manufacturing processes and their capability.

I am looking forward to the first results and I am sure that the knowledge obtained from our new DuraMax will increase our ability to be more predictive and help us in improving our processes even more. This new DuraMax is not the only initiative to increase our measuring capabilities, in May 2022 we will also receive a new Zeiss Spectrum in our measuring lab and this machine will increase the possibilities even more in the future, but more about this machine later on.
