We are the proud owner of a certificate for purchase of wind power, and we are thereby contributors to the fulfilment of UN’s 13th Sustainable Development Goal. Goal number 13 is about acting in a joint effort to combat climate change by reducing the world’s total CO2 emissions.
With our certificate for purchase of wind power, we use 100% green energy in 2019 and expect to do the same in 2020. This means that our energy consumption is 100% CO2 neutral. At the same time, we support the construction of additional wind turbines and thereby a development that ensures that sustainable energy sources in time will replace the non-renewable energy sources, we use today.
Isn't power just power?
But how does it work? How can you know whether you have wind power coming out of your power sockets – isn’t power just power? All power produced is led into the power grid so you truly cannot know from which source the power originates.
When we buy a certificate for purchase of wind power, we buy a certificate of origin that guarantees that we pay for, and thereby support, power from a specific type of power production. These certificates, called Guarantees of Origin, also guarantee that the power used in our annual energy consumption is reserved and produced by wind turbines.
What does this mean in the big picture?
As more and more people buy certificates for purchase of wind power, we help to increase the demand for wind power since the number of certificates issued corresponds to the amount of wind power expected to be produced in a year. Consequently, we do not just buy green energy, we also support the construction of new wind turbines, and thereby we contribute to increasing the amount of wind power in the Danish power grid.
